It's been 2 years since the last (proper) race report, as it's been that long, almost, since Damian raced in the Oval Track Legend formula, so here's an update on what's been happening since then ....

2007 was a great year for Damian, winning several track trophies and the coveted "Triple Crown". On a limited budget Damian proved he's a naturally talented racing driver often punching above his weight against more established, and better funded, teams.

2008 however proved to be a difficult and unsuccessful year. Despite a 3rd in the 2nd race of the season he decided he simply couldn't afford to compete and missed almost every race of the season, the last being at Northampton just over 2 years ago.

2009 was just the same, finances being the main issue. Although Legends is a reasonably inexpensive formula as far as oval track racing is concerned it's not cheap, and Damian simply couldn't afford to compete, hence the lack of activity on this website.

At the start of 2010 things didn't look much better, and in the last few months Damian has had to decide what to do about the car and whether to continue in the sport or not.

On the one hand he could've sold the car (a full Legends package can cost in the region of £10,000) but in doing so he would be effectively calling time on his racing career as he'd never be able to afford to get back into it in the future.

On the other hand, with finances at last starting to pick up, he could make the effort to get the car back up to spec and look at competiting again in 2011.

Fortunately that's what he decided to do, and has had a couple of run outs this year to test the car and see what needs to be done. He appeared for the 1st time in a Legend at Skegness on 19th August, where he pretty much came last (which was to expected after so long out). A 2nd run out at Skegness again on the 22nd saw him unexpectedly score a win and add the Des Chandler trophy to his haul (which unfortunately I wasn't there to film).

He also attended this weekend's event at Northampton. Although there were no trophies to compete for he decided the car needed more work and figured it'd be better to get in some practise this year to launch a realistic bid next year than to use the first few races of next season to do the work.

Northampton however went pretty much as Skegness on the 19th, last, last and last (or thereabouts). The car is just not handling correctly and more work needs to be done before Damian will be anywhere near approaching his old self.
